Euro 7: Ensuring Compliance For OEM and The Aftermarket

What is Euro 7?
Euro 7 is a regulation set by the European Union in its attempt to reduce harmful emissions created by commercial and passenger vehicles. Each set of new regulations brings us closer to the net zero target by decreasing the amount of harmful gases allowed to leave the exhaust.
The latest emissions standards have, for the first time, introduced other sections of the vehicle that should be monitored, including batteries on electric vehicles and tyres. They have also taken various other driving scenario’s into consideration, including short trips and cold temperatures.
Full compliance with Euro 7 is expected from July 2027.
How does it compare to Euro 6?
Tighter Exhaust Pollution Limits
Stricter limits on NOx and other pollutants in both laboratory and real-driving conditions. (e.g., NOx ~200 mg/kWh lab; ~260 mg/kWh RDE in provisional deal). These limits are much tighter than previous regulations and introduce real world testing for heavy-duty vehicles for the first time.
New Regulated Pollutants
Limits have been introduced for pollutants that have not been included in previous Euro emissions standards. e.g., nitrous oxide (N₂O), ammonia (NH₃) and non-exhaust issuers like brake/tyre wear.
Real-Driving Emissions (RDE)
RDE testing with in vehicle monitoring is now a requirement, whereas laboratory test cycles alone have been sufficient for previous regulations.
Lifetime Compliance
Regulations must now continue to be met for a longer period of the vehicles lifespan, expanding its durability. e.g., 375,000 km/8 years for N2/M3 <7.5 t; 875,000 km/15 years for >16 t
Non-Exhaust Emissions
The new regulations cover a wider range of areas on the vehicle that produce emissions, such as brakes and tyres. Previous standards have focused more heavily on exhaust produced emissions.
Testing Procedures
Testing procedures now require a mixture of laboratory engine testing and real-world vehicle testing.
Graphfor's Involvement
Via our sister company, Graphfor has already designed and produced a part to meet Euro 7 regulations, which has been tested and approved by the customer, and has already begun production. There are a further 8 projects in the works with major OEM brands preparing for the new regulations.
